Engineering design
Engineering design

Engineering design services from Radius Subterra provide practical, technically robust input for pipeline construction, rehabilitation and intervention projects, ensuring solutions are deliverable, compliant and aligned with real site conditions. Our team develops design packages to support lining schemes, new connections, diversions and asset modifications across live utility networks.

Our design capability is particularly valuable for pipe lining projects, where early engineering input influences method selection, installation strategy, and overall project viability. This includes assessing pipeline condition, diameter, access constraints, installation lengths and operational considerations to determine the most suitable rehabilitation approach.

Engineering design support includes the development of construction-ready design packages and technical layouts for pipeline rehabilitation and intervention works. These designs are shaped by practical delivery experience, ensuring proposed solutions are efficient, realistic and suited to on-site constraints.

We work closely with clients, engineers and project stakeholders to provide constructability-led advice at an early stage of project development. This helps identify constraints, reduce uncertainty and ensure selected methods can be delivered safely and efficiently within the physical and operational limits of the network.

Drawing on the combined expertise of Radius Subterra, Radius Systems and the wider Radius Group, we offer informed technical guidance across polyethylene (PE) systems, rehabilitation techniques, and intervention methods. This broader engineering perspective strengthens decision-making, supports method validation and helps clients shape practical, deliverable solutions before works progress into formal governance and compliance stages.

Governance and compliance

Governance and compliance support from Radius Subterra helps ensure complex pipeline works are planned, assessed, and delivered in line with industry standards, safety expectations, and asset-owner procedures. This services provides structured engineering oversight, procedural control and assurance throughout the full project lifecycle.

This includes input into RAMS development, Safe Systems of Work, and method validation, particularly for intervention, rehabilitation and non-standard installation activities across live networks. Our team works alongside clients, engineers, and project stakeholders to support safety-led planning and compliance from early development through to on-site delivery.

Governance and compliance support also includes coordination aligned with CDM requirements, helping clients manage duties around design, planning, competence, and risk control. Our involvement covers procedural development, safety documentation and evidencing that works can be delivered safely and in accordance with defined standards.

We can support field trials, product validation activities, and the development of new or adapted installation methodologies. This is particularly valuable when introducing new technologies, bespoke fabrications, or non-standard installation approaches where enhanced oversight is required.

By combining practical operational knowledge with structured engineering governance, Radius Subterra ensures works are supported by appropriate documentation, risk management, and compliance alignment. This provides confidence that solutions are technically viable, properly verified and ready for safe, delivery on operational networks. Our governance and compliance input strengthens project assurance, reduces uncertainty and supports reliable, standards-aligned execution.

Project delivery support

Project delivery support from Radius Subterra helps plan, coordinate and integrate pipeline works from early-stage development through to construction and operational handover. This includes site visits, technical consultancy, and practical input to help shape workable solutions before works begin on site.

This support is particularly valuable on complex intervention and rehabilitation schemes where access constraints, live network conditions, and multiple workstreams must be considered at an early stage. Project delivery support includes programme input, site assessments, construction planning, and coordination of associated activities to ensure works progress in a controlled and efficient manner. Early involvement allows us to identify risks, assess access constraints and provide practical advice based on real delivery experience.

We work alongside clients, engineers, and specialist subcontract partners to help integrate pipeline interventions with enabling works, including civil engineering activities where required. Although Radius Subterra does not directly undertake civil construction, we coordinate and manage these elements through trusted specialist partners as part of a single, integrated delivery approach.

Our operational background allows us to provide realistic input into sequencing, site setup, access planning, and installation methodology. This consultancy-led support enables informed decision-making and ensures projects move from planning into construction with clear direction, controlled interfaces, and strong alignment between engineering intent and site execution.

Operational planning and documentation

Operational planning and documentation support from Radius Subterra helps ensure that complex pipeline works are planned and executed safely, consistently and in full compliance with industry requirements. This includes structured planning, work pack development and coordination of key documents that define how site activities will be carried out across live networks

This capability is particularly important for intervention, rehabilitation, and connection projects where detailed operational planning is required before works can proceed.

Our team supports the production of operational documentation such as NRO and RO packages, installation work packs, method development, and supporting procedural information, ensuring works are clearly defined, properly sequenced and fully understood before arriving on site.

These documents are developed using practical delivery experience and aligned with engineering requirements, helping ensure installation teams, engineers, and stakeholders have a shared understanding of the planned activities, constraints and operational dependencies. Clear, structured documentation reduces uncertainty, supports safe decision-making and ensures works progress in a controlled and efficient manner.

We work closely with clients and project teams to ensure documentation is consistent, accurate and reflective of the proposed works, particularly on complex projects involving multiple stages, interventions or coordination with other contractors. By integrating real delivery knowledge with structured planning processes, Radius Subterra helps ensure that operational documentation provides a robust foundation for safe, compliant and well-coordinated onsite execution.

Technical reporting and assurance

Technical reporting and assurance from Radius Subterra supports pipeline interventions, installations, and rehabilitation works by providing clear, structured engineering records and supporting information. This documentation helps demonstrate that works are delivered in line with design intent, operational requirements and industry expectations.

Technical reporting is particularly important on complex interventions, bespoke fabrications and specialist installation activities where traceability and engineering justification are required. Our team produces detailed technical reports covering a wide range of pipeline works, including branch saddle installations, bespoke fabrication applications, intervention activities, and lining schemes. These reports can include installation details, technical assessments, supporting calculations, and photographic records where required.

We also support the preparation of specialist documentation such as Bluebox reports, branch saddle assessments, and EF/BF weld records, providing traceability for polyethylene (PE) welding activities carried out as part of a project. This documentation helps demonstrate that installation work is completed in accordance with approved procedures and required quality standards.

These records support asset owners, engineers and project stakeholders by providing a clear technical history of the works undertaken. They assist with approval processes, project handover, asset management and future reference where interventions have occurred on critical infrastructure. By combining engineering understanding with practical site experience, Radius Subterra delivers technical reporting and assurance that is structured, accurate and fully aligned with the governance requirements of operational pipeline networks.
