Pre-Insulated Pipework

Design, installation, repair and replacement of pre-insulated pipework systems for energy, industrial and utility applications.

Radius Subterra uses controlled construction methods to protect thermal performance, maintain system integrity and support long-term reliability across heat networks, thermal distribution systems and wider pre-insulated pipeline infrastructure.

Pre-insulated pipework is a core component of modern heat networks and thermal distribution systems, enabling the efficient transport of heated or cooled fluids between energy centres, plant rooms and end users. Radius Subterra delivers the installation, connection and commissioning of pre-insulated pipe systems as part of complex infrastructure and network delivery projects.

Our teams install factory-insulated pipe systems designed to minimise heat loss, protect the carrier pipe and support long service life in buried and protected environments. Systems typically comprise an internal carrier pipe, bonded insulation layer and outer protective casing, forming an integrated solution for district heating and thermal distribution applications. These engineered systems maintain thermal efficiency, structural integrity and long-term performance across varied ground conditions.

Radius Subterra supports a wide range of heat network and energy infrastructure projects, including district heating schemes, energy centres, renewable and low-carbon energy installations, industrial thermal systems and specialist utility networks. Installations include flow and return pipework, distribution spines, branch connections and plant interfaces, delivered in accordance with project specifications and operating requirements. This capability enables safe, consistent delivery across diverse project scales and operating temperatures.

As part of the wider Radius Group, and through close collaboration with RK Infra, Radius Subterra benefits from a strong understanding of pre-insulated pipe systems, their manufacture and their application within heat networks. This insight supports informed installation planning, correct jointing practices and protection of insulation integrity throughout construction.

Works are delivered using approved installation techniques and jointing methods selected to suit operating temperatures, pressures and system design life. All installations are subject to structured quality control, pressure testing and commissioning to confirm system integrity prior to handover. Comprehensive completion reporting provides asset owners and network operators with confidence that pre-insulated pipework has been installed safely, compliantly and in line with industry standards.

Through experienced delivery teams and an engineering-led approach, Radius Subterra provides dependable pre-insulated pipework solutions that support the efficient operation of heat networks and long-term thermal infrastructure performance.

Pre-Insulated Pipework technologies

Engineered installation techniques for pre-insulated pipe systems, supporting efficient heat distribution and reliable thermal performance across heat network and energy infrastructure projects.

Below-ground heat pump pipework
Below-ground heat pump pipework

Below ground pipework is a core element of ground source heat pump systems, forming the buried collector circuits that circulate fluid through the ground for heat exchange. These ground loops are typically installed using polyethylene pipework (commonly HDPE) due to its durability, corrosion resistance and suitability for long-term buried service. HDPE provides long-term reliability and robust performance in varied ground conditions.

Radius Subterra installs below-ground heat pump pipework including horizontal trench collectors and associated buried distribution runs between loop fields and energy centres. Jointing is completed using approved fusion methods to create continuous, pressure-rated pipe systems with long service life. Installations are planned to suit site constraints, programme requirements and hydraulic design, with trench depths and spacing set by project design and ground conditions.

Quality checks and completion reporting provide traceability of materials, jointing and installation records to support commissioning, compliance and long-term asset confidence.

This engineered approach ensures reliable thermal collection performance and supports efficient operation of ground source heat pump systems across diverse applications.

District heating pipework installation

District heating networks use pre-insulated pipework to distribute hot water from centralised energy sources to residential, commercial and industrial buildings. These systems use factory-insulated carrier pipes and protective outer casings to minimise heat loss, improve efficiency and support long-term network performance.

District heating networks are engineered to operate across varying temperature and pressure regimes, with insulation thickness and system configuration selected to suit design loads, route lengths and operating conditions. Pre-insulated pipework plays a critical role in reducing thermal losses between energy centres and end users, contributing to lower operational energy demand and improved carbon performance.

Radius Subterra supports the delivery of district heating infrastructure through the planning, installation, testing and commissioning of pre-insulated pipe systems. Our teams install insulated pipe routes across varied ground conditions, executing jointing methods that maintain insulation continuity and system integrity throughout installation.

As part of the wider Radius Group, and through our close relationship with RK Infra, we bring a strong understanding of pre-insulated pipe systems and their application within heat networks. This enables effective coordination between design, installation and long-term asset performance.

All district heating installations are delivered using approved procedures and competent personnel, with comprehensive records issued to support commissioning, handover and ongoing network operation. This structured approach ensures reliable system performance and long-term thermal efficiency.

Thermal distribution pipework installation

Thermal distribution pipework forms the backbone of systems that transport heated or cooled fluids between energy generation plant and points of use. Radius Subterra delivers the installation of pre-insulated thermal distribution networks designed to maintain temperature efficiency, system integrity and long-term performance across a wide range of applications.

Our teams install flow and return pipework for heating and cooling systems associated with energy centres, plant rooms, heat pumps, cooling infrastructure and wider thermal networks. Works typically involve factory-insulated plastic carrier pipes with integrated insulation and protective outer casings, installed below ground to minimise heat loss, protect the system and ensure durability in varied ground conditions.

Installations are planned and executed to meet site constraints, operating temperatures and hydraulic requirements. This includes routing through congested environments, connection into existing infrastructure and coordination with associated assets such as valves, manifolds and control equipment. Jointing methods are selected to maintain insulation continuity and protect the thermal performance of the system throughout its design life.

Thermal distribution networks installed by Radius Subterra support a wide range of sectors, including heat networks, renewable energy schemes, industrial facilities and specialist infrastructure projects. All works are delivered by experienced teams using approved procedures, with full quality control, testing and commissioning to verify system performance prior to handover.

By combining practical installation expertise with a strong understanding of pre-insulated pipe systems, Radius Subterra provides reliable, well-executed thermal distribution infrastructure that supports efficient energy transfer and long-term network operation.
